ZAKEIA TYSON-CROSS

Playwright, Raconteur, Poet

A native of Harlem, Zakeia Tyson-Cross is a naturally gifted storyteller, playwright and whose passion for life, history and community inspires her creativity. She has a deep commitment to social change, specifically in the areas of gender violence, reproductive justice, pop culture, and the preservation of historical time- periods within the Black communities.

Zakeia’s work have appeared on numerous blogs and media platforms such as Harlem World Magazine, BRIC TV, BK Nation and more.  Zakeia is a current Fellow Playwright with the New Perspectives Theatre Company full-play lab, which has debuted a reading of I Can’t Remember. Tyson-Cross is also a current 2022-2023 Fellow Playwright of the Liberation Theatre Company.  

Zakeia was recognized by The Billie Holiday Theater, 2019 & 2020, 50in50: Women’s Voices Initiative curated by playwright Dominique Morriseau.  A self-professed “life-long learner” she continues to find inspiration and motivation daily in continuing her creative process.
